Kids; baby goats

It's is still some time before baby goats are born, but it's such a exiting time. We always look forward to kidding season, no matter that it a lot of lost sleep and work at crazy hours. 

Baby's or kids, are generally born in the spring, with some exceptions of course. But we try to plan for March and April. The weather is a bit milder and snow is less frequent. It can still be cold but it's at least tolerable, for farmer and baby goat. Here we have LaMancha and Nigerian breeds and they are great moms. But occasionally we do have a baby that needs to be bottle feed...for different reasons. It's not the ideal upbringing but we not leave nature to its course. All kids are watched to see if they are taking on milk, and progressing as normal. If not, we do bottle feed but still leave them with mom and herd members.
